Meet the Cane Begonia 🌸
Graceful, generous with blooms, and surprisingly easy to grow — the Cane Begonia is a classic that never goes out of style. Named for its tall, bamboo-like stems, this beauty produces gorgeous clusters of flowers in shades of pink, red, white, or orange, framed by ornamental leaves that are often speckled or edged in silver. A plant that gives back as much as you put in.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning sun is welcome, but avoid harsh afternoon direct sun which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Consistent moisture is key, but never soggy — good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
- Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50%+). Avoid misting directly on the leaves to prevent powdery mildew — a pebble tray works great.
- Temperature: Prefers 65–75°F (18–24°C). Keep away from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F.
- Soil: Well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix with added perlite.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 2 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced or high-phosphorus liquid fertilizer to encourage blooming. Reduce in fall/winter.
- Pruning: Pinch back leggy stems to encourage a bushier, more floriferous plant.
- Repotting: Every 1–2 years. Slightly rootbound plants tend to bloom more freely.
⚠️ Toxicity Warning: Toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of animals.
