Meet the Sweetheart Hoya 💚
The ultimate gift plant and a collector's delight — the Sweetheart Hoya (Hoya kerrii), also known as the Lucky Heart Plant or Valentine Hoya, is as charming as it gets. Its thick, succulent heart-shaped leaves are nature's own love letter, and a mature plant rewards patient growers with clusters of small, star-shaped, sweetly fragrant blooms. Tough, long-lived, and endlessly endearing — a plant you'll cherish for years.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light. A few hours of gentle direct morning sun is welcomed and can encourage blooming. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.
- Water: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Succulent leaves store water — overwatering is the #1 killer. Water even less in fall/winter.
- Humidity: Adaptable to average household humidity (40–60%) — one of the more forgiving Hoyas in this regard.
- Temperature: Prefers 60–85°F (15–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and temps below 50°F.
- Soil: Fast-draining mix is essential — cactus/succulent mix or potting soil with plenty of perlite.
- Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced or bloom-boosting fertilizer. Skip in fall/winter.
- Blooming: Mature plants produce clusters of small, star-shaped, sweetly fragrant flowers. Never remove old flower spurs — new blooms grow from the same spots!
- Repotting: Rarely needed — thrives when rootbound. Only repot when roots are escaping the pot.
✅ Pet-Friendly: Generally considered non-toxic to pets and humans — a wonderful worry-free gift plant!
