Soft, silvery, and utterly unique — the White Velvet Tradescantia (Tradescantia sillamontana), also known as the Cobweb Spiderwort or White Gossamer Plant, is unlike any other houseplant you've seen. Every stem and leaf is blanketed in a dense coat of silky white hairs that give the entire plant a dreamy, frosted appearance — like it's been dusted with fresh snow. Come summer, it surprises with brilliant magenta-pink flowers that pop brilliantly against the silver foliage. A true conversation starter that's surprisingly easy to grow.

Care Guide

• Light: Bright, indirect light to full sun. One of the more sun-tolerant Tradescantias — loves a few hours of direct morning sun, which keeps the silver-white coating dense and growth compact. Low light causes leggy, sparse growth.
• Water: Allow soil to dry out between waterings. More drought-tolerant than most Tradescantias — the silvery hairs help retain moisture. Overwatering is the main risk. Water even less in fall/winter.
• Humidity: Adaptable to average household humidity. Actually prefers drier air — high humidity can mat the distinctive white fuzzy coating and encourage rot.
• Temperature: Thrives between 60–85°F (15–29°C). Tolerates heat well. Keep away from cold drafts and temps below 50°F.
• Soil: Well-draining mix — cactus/succulent mix or potting soil with plenty of perlite.
• Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Skip in fall/winter.
• Blooming: Produces small, vivid magenta-pink flowers in summer that contrast beautifully against the silver foliage — a spectacular seasonal bonus!
• Pruning: Pinch back leggy stems to keep it compact and full.
• Repotting: Every 1–2 years in spring when rootbound.
