Meet the Monstera Swiss Cheese Plant 🌿
Iconic, lush, and endlessly fascinating — the Monstera Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera adansonii) is a beloved classic that never goes out of style. Its heart-shaped leaves, naturally perforated with distinctive oval holes, create a dramatic tropical display whether trailing from a shelf or climbing a moss pole. As it matures, the fenestrations multiply and the leaves grow larger — a living artwork that evolves with you.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright to medium indirect light. Those iconic hole-filled leaves develop best with good light — avoid deep shade and direct harsh sun.
- Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Likes consistent moisture but hates soggy roots — good drainage is essential.
- Humidity: Loves humidity (60%+). Mist regularly, use a pebble tray, or place near a humidifier for lush, healthy growth.
- Temperature: Thrives between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F.
- Soil: Well-draining aroid mix — potting soil with perlite and orchid bark works great.
- Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Skip in fall/winter.
- Display: A natural climber and trailer — give it a moss pole to climb and watch the leaves get bigger and more fenestrated! Also stunning trailing from a hanging basket.
- Fenestrations: The distinctive holes develop as the plant matures and with adequate light — more light and climbing = more holes!
- Repotting: Every 1–2 years or when rootbound. Spring is the best time.
⚠️ Toxicity Warning: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
